2004 State Conference

Our 48th annual state conference was held June 10-12 at the Shiloh Inn in Idaho Falls. We had wonderful clinicians, guest speakers, an incredible concert artist and a very fun, yet informative Student Day Camp! A Saturday Showcase Session on new music available through Hal Leonard was presented by Jennifer Linn. Wonderful door prizes were awarded to attendees!

Guest Clinician: Steve Allen

Stephen Allen

Stephen Allen completed degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music and San Jose State University. He earned his doctoral degree in piano pedagogy and literature from the University of Indiana, where he attained additional degrees in both music education and musicology.

His performances include appearances throughout North America, and recent tours of Yokosuka and Yokohama, Japan, where he presented master classes for Music International-Japan (associated with the National Federation of Music Clubs) as guest performer and adjudicator.

As an active chamber musician he performs frequently, including an invitational performance with the Trio Terra Nova for the International Double Reed Society in Banff, Canada. Dr. Allen is currently Director of Piano Studies at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he has taught since 1986. He and his wife, Rebecca, are the parents of four children.

Guest Clinician: Jennifer Linn

An accomplished performer and composer in St. Louis, Missouri, Jennifer Linn is a contributing composer and arranger for the Hal Leonard Student Piano Library. Ms. Linn has maintained a private piano studio for over 20 years teaching beginning through advanced levels. Her compositions have been selected for the National Federation of Music Clubs' festival list and have been featured in Keys magazine.

Jennifer has presented lectures and workshops for professional music teachers' associations and conventions and frequently adjudicates festivals and competitions throughout the Midwest. As an active member of the St. Louis Area Music Teachers Association since 1992, she has served as Vice President. She also enjoys serving as a liturgical musician for St. Joseph's Church of Manchester.

In 1999-2000, Ms. Linn served as Visiting Lecturer in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is currently on the faculty for the 2004 Illinois Summer Youth Music Piano Camp where she has taught every summer since 1998. Ms. Linn received her B.M. and M.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Conservatory of Music where she was the winner of the Concerto-Aria Competition. She was also awarded the Vice Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence and Service. Jennifer resides in Chesterfield, Missouri with her husband Mark, and her two teenagers Andrew and Meaghan.
